Choose Your Sausage

When it comes to creating the perfect foil packet bratwurst, choosing the right sausage is essential. Whether you prefer traditional bratwurst, Italian sausage, or even a flavorful chicken sausage, selecting sausages of your choice will make all the difference in the final dish. Once you’ve picked out your favorite sausages, it’s time to move on to slicing the peppers and onions and preparing your foil packets for the grill.

Slice the Peppers and Onions

Now that you have your sausages, it’s time to slice up some fresh peppers and onions to add extra flavor and texture to your foil packet bratwurst. Start by cutting the peppers into thin strips, taking care to remove the seeds and core. Next, thinly slice the onions and separate the layers for even cooking. The combination of sweet peppers and savory onions will add a delicious contrast to the richness of the sausages. Once your peppers and onions are prepped, you’re ready to add them to your foil packet along with the sausages before wrapping it all up and sealing in the flavors for a mouthwatering meal.

Wrap it Up

Now that you have your sausages, sliced peppers and onions, it’s time to prepare the foil for grilling. You will need 2 pieces of foil, approx. 12″ x 20″. Drizzle 1 Tbs of the oil of your choice, (I use vegetable oil) in the middle of each piece of foil. Place sausages and half of the peppers and onions in the middle of each foil piece. Drizzle 2 Tbs of chicken broth over each set of sausages and peppers and sprinkle with salt and pepper. It’s time to wrap it all up tightly to ensure that the flavors meld together as they cook on the grill. Once they are wrapped, turn the package over and place in the opposite direction and wrap one more time. Wrapping the ingredients securely in the foil not only helps to create a steamy cooking environment but also keeps everything contained for easy cleanup afterwards.

Grill to Perfection

Now that your foil packets are securely wrapped up and ready to go, it’s time to fire up the grill and cook your bratwurst to perfection. Preheat your grill to medium heat and place the foil packet directly onto the grates. Allow the bratwurst and veggies to cook for 20 minutes, flipping the packet every 5 minutes to ensure even cooking. Once it’s been 20 minutes and the sausages are sizzling and the veggies are tender, it’s time to open the packets, remove sausages and place directly on the grill. Leave the foil open on the grill so the peppers and onions stay warm. Cook on either side for 2 to 3 minutes to give sausages grill marks. Get ready to enjoy a flavorful and hassle-free bratwurst dish that will surely impress your family and friends. Serve and enjoy!

Serve and Enjoy

It’s time to serve up this delicious and easy meal. The aroma of grilled bratwurst and flavorful veggies will surely tempt your taste buds. We like to put mayo on our brat buns, add the sausage and top with the onions and peppers. I usually will air fry a batch of frozen fries or make it with frozen tator tots, that we like to call “Brats & Tots”! Whether you’re enjoying this dish alone or sharing it with friends and family, the convenience and taste of foil packet bratwurst will be a hit at any gathering. So grab a plate, dish out the contents of the foil packet, and savor each bite of this mouthwatering creation. Serve and enjoy the flavors of a successful grilling session that brings everyone together around the table.,

I hope you find this as delicious as my family and I do! I enjoy doing this one on a weeknight as a super simple meal or serving at a BBQ. It always impresses!
